Hey there! My name is Jerry Chyo and I’ve been a “Tax Guy” since 1984. At this time I’m getting ready to transition to the next phase in my life, and the creation of this tax and business blog (yeah, I know. Super generic. But give it a chance. You’ll be glad you did). The not so cool stuff is I’m a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Tax Resolution Specialist. That’s a long time helping people with their taxes and tax problems!
In my life outside the office, I’m a snow skier, mountain biker and dog lover (we have three!). The love of my life is Mary and she is one of my Why’s.
Another Why is I want to give back. I’ve been incredibly fortunate in my life and throughout my career I have always been available for my clients, friends and family if they needed help with their taxes or tax problems (or pretty much anything else if I’m being honest). I saw up close and personal how hard the COVID pandemic was on a lot of good people and how slim a margin of error small business and working folk have. It was heart wrenching. I’ve actually been front and center to the last four economic hiccups (1989, 1995, 2007, now) and I made it through each one beaten and bruised, but still standing.
Another reason I decided to do this is kind of guilt relief. I’m a Boomer and I freely admit my generation has done more to fuck our world up than any previous generation. When I graduated college back in the early 80’s, 31% of people under the age of 30 owned their own home. That number is 4% now. The outlook and mindset of way to many Gen Zer’s all the way up to Millennial’s is despair and unfortunate acceptance of the cards dealt to them by my generation.
On behalf of Boomers everywhere (even the assholes who won’t admit we screwed up, or that there’s even a problem), I’m sorry and hope you get something out of my information download. Just think of me a TaxGuy AI.
